Owning Your (Domain) Name
Jun 15, 2023
Your domain name is your tiny slice of the web. You can publish whatever you want on a personal website and use it as your email address.
Search your full name .com at https://domains.google.com. If you're lucky enough, it'll show as available and only $12/year.
If you want to use it for your email address, connect it to a Google Workspace account, which costs around $6/mo. It's just a business version of Gmail that lets you use a custom domain instead of gmail.com.
I bought benlatz.com in 2012 and will own it for the rest of my life. For such little cost, it's a pretty special asset to own. Every time you email someone, it's a mini advertisement for them to check out what you share on your site. And even if you don't plan to use it for the foreseeable future, claim it before another person with your name does.
